What is the origin of the word CHINO?

At the beginning of the 20th Century, while the trousers were made in England, in Manchester to be exact, they were sold by Chinese merchants to American soldiers stationed in the Philippines. There would have been a semantic connection between the pants and its Chinese sellers.

This neologism dates, according to specialists, from the years following the Spanish-American War (1898) or from the 1930s.
